Flexible Benefit Program
Enrollment in the Flexible Benefit Program provides a way to reduce the amount of federal, state, and social security taxes you pay on medical and daycare tax-deductible expenses paid out-of-your-pocket throughout the plan year.

To allow more time for participants to incur expenses each year and reduce the chance for forfeitures. PWCS has elected to modify the flex plan to include the option to allow employees who are unable to spend their health care funds prior to the end of the plan year an extra 2 1/2 months, after plan year-end, to incur eligible expenses before being forced to forfeit unused funds. It is essential to understand that the use-it-or-lose-it rule still exists, but the extension greatly softens the blow by allowing you more time to use your unspent FSA balances.

The Prince William County Schools Flexible Benefit Program open enrollment period will be April 15 - May 15, 2013. All full-time and part-time employees who are working at least 17 ½ hours per week will be eligible to enroll in the Flexible Benefit Program. The effective date will be July 1, 2013. Enrollment is necessary each plan year if you wish to participate in the Flexible Benefit Program.  Please keep this in mind as you consider your contributions. Unclaimed contributions will be forfeited 90 days after the close of the plan year.
  • Enrollment forms will to be sent to the Office of Benefits and Retirement Services. Sheakley,
a third party provider, will administer the program for Prince William County Schools.
  • Participants will be responsible for submitting their reimbursement requests directly to Sheakley.
  • Sheakley will issue reimbursements to the participant via check or direct deposit.
  • Expenses will be reimbursed up to a maximum of $5,000 for dependent care and $2,500 for
health care for the 12-month plan year per account,
  • You will be able to access your account information on-line by following the instructions for registering at www.sheakley.com/benefits.asp
The annual open enrollment period is the only time during the school year that current employees can enroll in the program, unless there is an approved change in family status (e.g. birth, adoption, death, marriage, divorce) or change in employment status (e.g. part-time to full-time).  Employees who have a family or employment status change outside the open enrollment period have 30 days from the event to enroll in the program or make changes to the election amount.

Open Enrollment Period:  April 15 - May 15, 2013 for the plan year that begins July 1, 2013 and concludes June 30, 2014.

Additional Information/Forms

Section 125 of the Internal Revenue Code offers substantial savings to employers through "pre-tax" medical and child care benefits. While employees gain more disposable income, employers reduce social security taxes, and other related employer expenses.
