THREE-YEAR CONDITIONAL/PROVISIONAL SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER

 

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) Tuition Reimbursement Program applies to any special education teacher holding a three-year provisional or conditional license.  Reimbursement is up to $500 per course for a maximum of two courses per year for school aged children and up to $600 per per course for a maximum of three courses per fiscal year for children from birth ato age 5.  You must take graduate level courses meeting the competencies in the endorsement area of your instruction from an accredited college or university. The following criteria apply:

  • Full-time Special Education teachers instructing children from birth to 5-years old maximum of $600 per course or $1800 per fiscal year (October 1 - September 30) VDOE Application and Memo #216-12
  • Full-time Special Education teachers instructing school age children (6 years or older) maximum of $500 per course for up to two courses per fiscal year, (one course per sememster) or $1000 per fiscal year (October 1 - September 30) VDOE Application and Memo #215-12
  • Tuition assistance is contingent upon available funding
  • Funds are limited to a first come, first served basis
  • The course must meet the competencies in the endorsement area of your instruction
  • The application must be submitted immediately after registration
  • Tuition reimbursements shall cover the cost of tuition only

Reimbursements will not be made for any courses wherein tuition reimbursement is received under any scholarship, fellowship or other subsidized program.

ANY TRANSCRIPTS OR TEST SCORE REPORTS THAT ARE RELEVANT TO YOUR CERTIFICATION MUST ALSO BE SENT SEPARATELY TO THE CERTIFICATION DEPARTMENT.

SUBMISSION PROCEDURES FOR VDOE TUITION REIMBURSEMENT PROGRAM
  1. Complete the VDOE application and return to the PWCS Certification Office immediately after enrollment in an approved course
  2. The PWCS Certification Office will complete the “School Division Certification” section of the application and forward the form to Dr. JoAnne Y. Carver at VDOE
  3. VDOE will process your request then send you an approval letter for tuition assistance

After completion of your course, send a copy of each of the following documents to the PWCS Certification Office:

  1. Tuition assistance approval letter from VDOE
  2. Academic transcript with a grade “B” or higher
  3. Receipt of payment (cancelled check, university receipt or credit card statement) for each approved course
